AFAR is a collaboration between Melbourne based fashion designer Alexi Freeman (AF) and Hobart/Melbourne based designer Aaron Roberts (AR) of room11 architectural practice. AFAR investigates textile and pattern-making methodologies via topographical extrusions resulting in multi-layered installations that reference holographics. In this way, seasonal motifs are examined, separated and layered forming topographies of varying density and complexity, shifting with viewer orientation.
To date, AFAR has produced the first two in a series of collaborative installation works, the Project #1 Flapper relating to the AF AW09 collection geometric print motif (see image list) the Project #2 Death Cloud relating to the plaid motif integral to the AF SS09/10 collection
